intro + bio
But what does Mote Interactive *DO* exactly? We teach, we build, we reconstruct, we modify, we entertain, we usher you into the next version of the internet. We work with small businesses, educational and human resources companies, we subcontract to larger internet companies, we work invisibly on super-cool projects, but mostly we stitch a Flash front-end to a database back end.
What kind of database? If we were to start from scratch, we'd prefer to work with PHP and MySQL or PostGreSQL. If you have a database in place, then Flash just needs to contact the database and get some XML or SOAP back. Mote has got Flash working with Cold Fusion, ASP.NET, and SQL. We'll even try Flash/Perl.
Mote Interactive was formed in June 2002 when Mote owner/programmer Gabino Travassos left Redengine in Edmonton and moved to Calgary. Redengine was moving away from e-learning and focusing on their in-house highly functional content management system, and Mote bought the e-learning contracts that Redengine still had.
Designing and programming e-learning materials with Flash and Director led to XML and small-business content management systems. For three years Gabino taught Flash and PHP at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, and Chinook College in Calgary (plus a year at the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta). Now the emphasis is on Flash and video and database updateability.
